WebTPA is a third-party administrator of health care benefits, handling claims processing and benefits administration for health systems, self-funded employers and insurance carriers. Founded in 1993 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, with an additional office in San Antonio, the company describes itself as one of the largest TPAs in the United States. It manages more than 3.8 million members and processes some 7.1 million claims a year.
The firm builds and maintains much of its own technology. Its proprietary claims system was developed in 1998 to handle tailored claims-processing requirements, and engineering work spans claims processing systems, health care administration platforms and custom benefits administration. Product lines include administrative outsourcing, health plan solutions for self-funded employers, and services that let hospital health plans give employees access to care at their own facilities.
WebTPA was acquired by GuideWell, a not-for-profit health solutions company, in 2020. It works with clients on a partnership basis and operates under an "It's Your Plan" philosophy, under which benefit designs are customised rather than standardised. The stated aim of these arrangements is access to high-quality, affordable care.
